A CGM works through a tiny sensor inserted under the skin, usually on abdomen or upper arm. The sensor measures the glucose found in the fluid between the cells. The sensor tests glucose every few minutes or over 100 readings in a day.

CGMs are always on and recording glucose levels  continuously whether while showering, working  or sleeping.  With some CGMs an  alarm can sound when glucose levels  go too low or too high.

CGMs can help recognize glucose variations with  meals, physical activity, and medicines .

Some models can send information to smart phone real time. If  a child has hypoglycaemia while at school or while sleeping, the CGM could wake the parent or family.

Compared with a standard blood glucose meter, using a CGM system can help you

  • Better manage glucose levels
  • Have fewer low blood glucose emergencies
  • Need fewer finger sticks with glucometers

Good management of glucose helps people with diabetes stay healthy and prevent complications.

All diabetes patients can use to understand their glucose patterns in relation to food, exercise and medications.

  • To identify any low sugars, particularly at night during sleep.

  • Patients who have high or low blood glucose
  • All patients who are on insulins
  • All pregnant women with gestational diabetes
  • Patients who are at risk of Diabetes (prediabetes)
