What is the eligibility to enroll as a Diabetes Educator?

Any of the following qualifications are suitable to become a Diabetes Educator

Physician Assistants, Dietitian /Nutritionist, Physiotherapist, Pharmacist, Nursing Staff, Podiatrists,      Phlebotomists, B Sc Degree holders

How long is the course?

The training lasts for 3 to 6 months based on individual candidate skills and learning    capabilities.

How much does the course cost?

The course costs Rs. 10000. However, eligible candidates can avail scholarships upto 50%.

How much money does a diabetes educator make?

Diabetes Educator is a new concept for India. However, depending on their skills and passion for Diabetes, they can either in Diabetes Clinics and charge Rs.500 per patient every visit.

What does the training involve?

Training involves a total of 500 hours of exposure in Diabetes management within the 3 to 6 months period. (i.e. 4 hours a day for 3 months on an average).

The training will give exposure to patient care in a clinic setting along side lectures and study material.

A competency certificate will be awarded for those candidates who demonstrate adequate skills at the end of the course.

How does a Diabetes Educator help a patient?

Diabetes Educators form a bridge between the doctor and the patient ensuring continuity of care in between clinic visits.

Diabetes Educators can be taking up the roles based on their skills which can include:

Educating patient towards self management and monitoring of their diabetes, help with basic understanding about diabetes, diet and exercise, medications, tests and healthy living.
